It all began one spontaneously day during Ubong's trip from the United States to Nigeria in late 2009. A random encounter when the two met while hanging out with their friends. They exchanged contacts but never really followed through except for a few random phone calls. It was not until early 2010 when the familiar faces found each other's profile on Facebook. This made it a little easier to communicate, and the fondness of each other grew into an unlikely love story.
With Iddy based in Nigeria and Ubby in the United States, maintaining a long distance relationship seemed difficult at times but not enough to break their spirits and closeness. They both found ways to make time for each other despite their busy daily schedules.
Ubby made it a necessity to visit Nigeria every year. He would save all of his vacation, sick and PTO days and would obtain permission from his employers to allow him to have a good stay in Nigeria. During his visits, their love really grew in stature and brought them closer to their families.
During his November 2012 visit to Nigeria, Ubby planned a grandiose proposal at Iddy's family's house. Unfortunately, the plan was affected by several other family events at the time. Instead, he decided they should get ready to attend church service on Sunday, December 2nd.
As they were preparing, Ubby offered a gift to Iddy, a beautiful designer handbag for her Sunday service with some gifts in it. While she was scampering through the contents of the bag pockets, he nervously prepared the question. When Iddy got close to the box with the ring, he got down and popped the question; she gladly accepted. They both celebrated the day in church and shared the news with their family and friends.
